Madeline Island

On Thursday morning we headed for an outing on Madeline Island, largest of the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. The journey involved driving to Bayfield, WI, boarding a ferry and making a 20 minute crossing to La Pointe, the small village on the Island. Our first stop was at the Madeline Island Museum  which taught us about the history and life of the island over the years.

Done with the museum we went searching for a picnic site. We found a pleasant picnic table at Big Bay State Park on the east side of the island overlooking the lake.

Our entertainment during lunch was feeding ants traveling on the wooden fence next to the picnic table.

After lunch we toured more of the island and captured a few images of island animals and events.

Madeline Island has a rich history as a home for native people, center of fur trading in the area and eventually a tourist attraction. It was a great day,
